The Three Small Ships

On the coast of Jamestown Island in Virginia, on May 13, 1607 appeared three small ships appeared. The Susan Constant, Godspeed, and the Discovery ship.

The Susan Constant Ship

The Susan Constant, of one hundred tons under Captain Christopher Newport, brought seventy-one persons. The Susan Constant is 116 feet long from the tip to stern, and 55.2 feet (16.8 meters) at the keel. This ship was in service before 1607 and out of service after 1615. This ship is owned and operated by the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation.

The Godspeed Ship

Captain Bartholomew Gosnold commanded the Godspeed, of forty ship, carrying fifty-two persons. The Godspeed ship is 68 feet (21 m) in length. This Ship was in service before 1607 and was not officially out of service. This ship is owned and operated by the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation.

The Discovery Ship

The little pinnace, Discovery, of twenty tons, under Captain John Ratcliffe, brought another twenty-one persons. The Discovery Ship is 171 meters long. This Ship was in service from 1607 and out of service 1611. This ship is owned and operated by the Virginia Company of London.
