Hey guys, today I’m going to tell you what tools I use for math. There are three things I use: Saxon Math, Beast Academy, and Khan Academy.

Saxon Math is a book that teaches 2 grades of math per book. In the first half, it has a lower grade and in the second half, it has a higher grade. Saxon Math has 3 parts in each lesson: the mental math, the practice, and the problem set. As you get to the higher grade levels, the number of questions in the problem set gets higher. The highest number of questions is 30. Before the practice starts, it explains how to do what’s in the lesson, and it has examples. You do NOT write in the book. You have to get a notebook for it.

Next, I will talk about Beast Academy. Beast Academy is an online math curriculum. It needs a LOT of thinking. It is part of AOPS, which stands for Art Of Problem-Solving. Beast Academy is recommended for ages 6-13. Beast Academy has 5 chapters. As you go higher, the work gets harder and more thinking is involved. Beast Academy challenges the student and develops their skill of problem-solving. You do have to pay for Beast Academy, though. Beast Academy has a school, lab, theater, and library. The school has all the lessons, the theater has all the videos, the library has all the books, and the lab has the puzzles. Beast Academy has a demo, so you can see what it’s like for yourself. Note: on the demo, you can’t see what the lab is like on the demo. Here’s the link to the demo, though: beastacademy.com/demo/school.

Finally, I will explain how Khan Academy works. I explained how Khan Academy works in my last post, but I’ll explain it again. Khan Academy is an online educational website that is mostly known for math. Khan Academy has a list of courses you can take, and even better it’s free! Khan Academy teaches math, grammar, history, SAT Prep, programming, etc. Khan Academy helps with a LOT of things it even helps with the nursing NCLEX-RN exam. Khan Academy has all the grades, so you can just pick the grade and it keeps track of your child’s progress on that grade. Here’s the link to Khan Academy: khanacademy.org
In conclusion, Saxon Math, Beast Academy, and Khan Academy are great in helping to understand math.
